CollabOS provides explicit recovery tools when one person has more than one CollabOS account or tries to connect a Discord or X identity that is already owned by another account.
Identity ownership
Active identity ownership is unique:
- one Discord user ID can be actively connected to one CollabOS account
- one X user ID can be actively connected to one CollabOS account
- one verified email can belong to one CollabOS account
A previously disconnected social identity does not stay permanently locked to the old account. It can be connected elsewhere after it is no longer actively owned.
Transfer identity
Use identity transfer when you want to move a Discord or X identity to the CollabOS account you plan to keep without combining the full account histories.
CollabOS requires proof of ownership before transfer. It does not move an identity just because someone knows the username, email, or provider ID. A transfer is also blocked when removing the source account's Discord identity would leave that source account without the required recovery route.
Merge accounts
Use account merge when both CollabOS accounts belong to the same person and their supported current account state should be consolidated.
The merge flow requires proof of ownership of both accounts through the supported email/password or Discord confirmation flow. The user chooses the CollabOS account that survives.
After a merge:
- the surviving account remains the active account
- duplicate workspace memberships are reconciled instead of duplicated
- supported current account state and connected identities are consolidated
- old sessions for the merged-away account are invalidated
- the merged-away user record is retained as a non-login historical record
- historical raffle entries and winner records are not mass-rewritten just to make them appear under the surviving user
Merge and transfer are intentionally explicit. CollabOS does not silently steal or reassign an actively connected Discord or X identity.
